you know, i've never much attention to what Gordon Brown has to say
about anything. but this statement:

There are, he says, four issues that require the world's
collective, cooperative attention. "We have global financial flows,
but we do not have any form of early warning system for the world
economy," he says. "We have environmental catastrophe but we have no
capacity to plan, finance and act globally. We have failed states and
terrorism, but we've got no organisational ability to deal with
reconstruction, peacekeeping and humanitarian work. And we've got a
growing population participation in the big issues of the day, but we
don't have any forum that brings the different faiths of the world
together."

Time Magazine, April 28, 2008, Voyager to the West

has convinced me that i should pay more attention to his ideas and
speeches. what he said brought to mind something a certain teacher said
once and i'm in total agreement. yet, to be able to point the
problems out does not mean that it will be solved. who is going to
take the first step? and we don't need any reminders that large
organisations actually bring down efficiency in policies making and
implementations because of grand idea of democracy. sometimes,
democracy just isn't the way about an issue. but i don't suppose the
West is going to be enthusiastic about giving up their rights, thus
democracy will prevail, leading to inefficiencies. it's a vicious
cycle and in the end, the four issues will remain issues and not be
solved. how grand, the idea of democracy.

I read off Gary Chaw's blog last night that he is slated to give a
concert in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Hope
I will be able to go to his concert. Hope that his tickets will not
be too expensive so that poor me will be able to afford. I wonder who
will be his special guests. Hopefully someone I like as well. :)

Darn. so many hopes in the last paragraph. my vocab is shrinking...
NOOOOOOOO.....

Leisure Park is as crowded as a....
er, ghost town.
I'm so boooooorrrreeeeedddddddd.......

26 April 2008

I propose to... kill all the small dogs with shrill barks and keep all
the large ones which don't bark at every single fucking thing. put all
kinds of dogs in a shopping centre and what do you get? a cacophony (harsh discordance of sound; dissonance - dictionary.com). I
am ready to kill anytime. my head's pounding from all the barks.

and i want to quit work already. no life. no freedom. lots of boredom.
lots of irritating brats. too much air con. i want to QUIT!

-aeRieL-

28 April 2008

what should I do after I quit this boring job?
1. Take up tuition teaching (will the kid perform even worse?)
2. Start exercising (hope i have enough self-discipline!)
3. Slack (i'll get sick of it after 1 month...)
4. Pick up a new language, preferably Thai (refer to option 2)
5. Find another job (again?!)
6. Watch all the Korean dramas and brawl my eyes out (sounds good but
the story line will become predictable like Taiwanese dramas...)

how? I've got no idea what to do.

then again, it's still 1 month plus away. If I fall sick, it'll be on
the boss' conscience. stuck in an air-con shopping centre for 11 hours
a day.

oh, and i think the Cold Storage staff know my face le. I've been
going there almost everyday. :S

I'm bored....

caller: hello, is this aeriel?
me: ya...
caller: i am MXXXX and i'm calling from #*$%( company. you are down
for a job interview. so when will you be free to come down for the
interview?

and i was like, WTF?! i didn't apply for any job and he just mumbled
his name and his company name.

caller: oh, wait. how old are you?
me: what? how old am i?! *like, WTF again?! he don't know how old i am
and he's offering me a job?!* er... 19.
caller: oh, so you are schooling now?
me: er... ya.
caller: poly?
me: no.
caller: JC?
me: ya.

as you can see, i don't feel like being friendly. but he's not
deterred. DAMN!

caller: oh, ok. so when are you free to come down for an interview?
me: hello, i am schooling? i don't want to work.
caller: why don't i give you my number and if you need a job, you can
contact me? or if your friends are looking for a job, you can give them
my number?
me: ok, sure.

i was thinking, stupid guy. so desperate to find people to work. must
be some shit work no one wants to do. anyhow han-tam one name and one
number and happily call. oh, and when i asked him where he got my
number from, he said from his resource team. and they could have gotten
it from the internet but he's not sure.

conclusion: he's got a lousy job too. calling unknown people and
fielding questuons from suspicious and hostile people. well, too bad
for him. anyone wants the job? i can give you the number but don't
blame me if it's shit job. i will not be held responsible for any
dissatisfaction resulting from the acceptance of the job i don't know
anything about.

12 April 2008

sometimes, on melancholy days, i think about a lot of things. sometimes
impractical, sometimes wishful, sometimes foolish and always purely
impossible.

today, with business as slow as soil creep (is that slow? i've really
forgotten. but it sounds slow), i've been thinking of past friendships.
i wish for some old friendships that has faded to nothing to be
revived. but it's impossible. we've all been strangers for a number
of years now. and the knowledge that we were once close friends
makes it even worse. what made us turn from friends to strangers (the
last time) may happen again, so what is the use of investing time
and not to mention, energy into renewing this friendship? there is
really no motivation to do so. so once the chance to be friends is
gone, it's gone.

like i say, melancholy day, today.

-aeRieL-

i wonder how people stay optimistic in this world. it really depresses
me to read of the events happening in the world. the oppression of the
Tibetians by the Chinese, for example. i despair to see incompetent
leaders leading the world down to destruction.

maybe ignorance is really bliss.

5 April 2008, Saturday

OMG! i'm so touched by my classmates! they came down to my shop and
accompanied me for 4 hours plus! yup. very touched by their gesture.
especially when i seems as if they've wasted the afternoon cos there's
practically nothing to do here. yes, it's that bad, considering that
today's a Saturday. the sales i made is insignificant. aini, yujia,
sylvia, james were great fun! haha. miss them so much. and i think i've
never talked to james this much before. we took vastly different
subject combinations and he's always sleeping in the Nexus or
something. lol.

my boss had to go off to Dubai for some business related visit and
left me to tend the shop 11 hours/ day for a week or more and today is
only the first day. but that would also mean that i don't have to go
down to my uncle's place on Sunday! MUAHAHAHA! that's a great thing
cos the food usually suck and i have nothing to do there cos i'm
not close to any of my cousins.

was reading Jia Jie's blog that day and came across the entry on
27/03/2008 and i've got to admit that that entry is
more like the Jia Jie i know. haha. i hope his Christian friends
are still his friends cos it's really not worth losing a
friend over religious issues especially when one can choose one's
religion.

OMFG! Sg is DAMN rich!
The largest soverign wealth funds(SWFS) -- the so-called Super
Seven, which includes China, Russia, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Norway and
two SINGAPORE funds -- controls up to $1.8 trillion.

the Wealth of Nations. Time magazine, Dec 17, 2007
yes, yes, i just read it...

8 April 2008

i'm very tempted to learn driving recently cos there're a few people
learning driving at the carpark in front of Leisure Park. it's so
intersting to see them do parallel parking and stuff. but as i read of
the rising oil prices and with my knowledge of the car taxes in SG
plus COE plus the price of the car, i decided not to go for the
tests anymore. taking bus is infinitely cheaper although it still
stops my heart to see a trip from home to Orchard costing $1++. in
the long run, i still save more than people who drive. :D

i'm going to complain. so if you don't wish to see it, you can scroll
up now.

i really really really wish the boss will HURRY UP AND FLY OVER TO
DUBAI AND BACK AGAIN! DOES SHE EVEN KNOW HOW TEDIOUS IT IS TO WORK
11 HOURS IN A SHOPPING MALL THAT IS EQUIVALENT TO A BLOODY GHOST
TOWN?!THERE IS NO SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT NOR SATISFACTION TO BE
DERIVED FROM THE JOB. THERE IS NO INTERNET CONNECTION FOR ME TO USE.
THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR ME TO DO MY OWN THINGS. I WORK 7 DAYS A
WEEK, 11 HOURS A DAY. THAT LEAVES ME WITH ONLY 13 HOURS, MINUS 8
HOURS FOR SLEEP, 2 HOURS FOR GETTING READY FOR WORK + LAZING IN BED +
EATING BREAKFAST, 1 HOUR FOR TRAVELLING TO AND FROM WORK, I ONLY HAVE 2
HOURS FOR MYSELF.

IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO GO TO THE LIBRARY AND BACK. IT'S NOT ENOUGH FOR ME
TO GO OUT FOR A DINNER WITH FRIENDS. I AM NOT ABOUT TO COMMIT MYSELF TO
THIS STINKING JOB AND FORGO MY FUCKING OFF DAYS AND HOLIDAYS. GOING TO
SCHOOL BEATS THIS WORKING HOURS. WAIT TIL YOU ARE BACK AND I'M GOING
TO CLAIM ALL THE OFF DAYS I FORGONE AND SEE HOW YOU CAN STAND STAYING
IN THE SHOP FOR 11 HOURS FOR 4 CONSECUTIVE DAYS AND COUNTING.

I'm a no-lifer not by choice but by circumstances, dammit.

i've finally uploaded the BKK photos. yes, one month after i returned. haha. enjoy! i took damn long to do this!Thailand's version of MRT called BTS. it has only 3 cabins though.
so one train in SG is 2 trains over there. :P

their ticketing machine. pretty much the same as the old
kind we had. their cards, again, like our old bus card. they do have
the ez-link kind. the locals use that.

view of Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn) from the boat and
within the compound. i guess it looked much better at dawn, with the
sun behind it, thus earning that name....
look at the tiles. must have taken a damn long time to cover the
whole compound with it. it's everywhere - in Grand Palace, in Wat Arun!

the Grand Palace. it's all gold and glitter. very
impressive yet itimidating.
still in the Grand Palace. a welcoming respite from the gold
structures everywhere.
at some backyard of the Grand Palace, i think. that's my dad,
with my sis and i at the back spoiling the picture. :P
our boyfriends. know why i chose the one on the right? cos he's
holding on to a gold nugget! mUAHAHAHA! *must be practical ma* :P
the famous reclining Buddha with mother-of-pearl for soles. very
pretty. :)
the 'hawker centre cum wet market' around the corner of our
hotel. they sell really delicious (much better than KFC) fried
drumsticks for S$0.90 among other good food. regretted buying only
1... :(
just behind the hotel i stayed in. look at that! Think Earth
Exhibition Hall! they have a lot of publicity on stopping global
warming, being environmental friendly and things. so cool. i wish
SG will make more effort in supporting these causes. but i guess
economic development has protecting the environment taking a back
seat.
Suan Lum Night Bazaar. don't now if those who went for the
Huamnities Field Trip in sec 2 when we were in TK remember this
place or not.
Krit Thai Mansion. the hotel we stayed in. not too bad except
that the cold water is damn cold and the hot water damn hot. cannot
achieve a balance one. and the steps leading up to the hotel are
ginormous! but it's only S$25 per night if my memory serves me well.
you can't find that rate anywhere, not even at hotel 81. and it's
opposite MBK shopping centre, beside National Stadium BTS station,
opposite National Stadium and in front of Jim Thompson House. i would
say it's a good location. :)
the very complicated, haphazard, ridiculous traffic that can be
found everywhere in Thailand. they've got A LOT of pink cabs. for
pink loving freaks people
at Chatuchak Weekend Market. we went there for 2 consecutive
days. so damn hot i sunburned and turned black. especially my
forehead. grrr. my sis, mom and me. :)
Siam Paragon. relaively high class shopping centre. the tinsel
balls are super cute and i took a picture with them but i was tooooo
fat in that pic, so no one's going to see it. seriously, i've gained
too much weight in these few years... *sigh*
lunch at Outback Steak House. can be found at Millenia Walk in
SG but it's at least 2 times cheaper in Bangkok. :D mine was some
middle-raw steak. beef beef! SHIOK!
counting down to the next green light... 112, 111, 110... cool,
eh?

Bang-Pa-In Palace or Summer Palace for the
royal family. there are eight (i think) different architeture styles in the
compound some of which are in the photos. there's Chinese, Portugese,
Thai, and some others that i forgot.
another reclining Buddha. but this made of stone and has no
mother-of-pearl soles. oh, this is in AYUTHAYA. capital of Thailand
until the invasion of the Burmese.
the whole compound is surrounded by these Buddhas. too religious
for an atheist like me.

some structure in Ayuthaya. love the angle at which it is
taken. BTW, the photographer was my Dad. i just took his photos and
displayed them. haha. given a chance, i would say they're just a pile
of rubble (left behind after the battle). ya, i have no culture.
a house with the river as the backyard. i would love to live in
this kind of house in the future. guess i'll have to move to Thailand
since the ones at Sentosa is definitely out of my league..
the famous Buddha head wrapped by a Bodhi tree in Ayuthaya.
bacause the stone is the same colour as the tree roots, it looks as
if it is part of the tree.
the more unfortunate Buddha statues that got caught in the
crossfireswords. there are headless ones, handless, armless,
bodyless. ok, i think i've just invented those words. :S and not to
mention, the weathering (chemical weathering, i would say) taking palce
on these statues. they're not in too good a shape these days...
the end of the holiday. one week was over all too quickly. and
i really miss my kids in Mae Hong Son. i think i will never get to see
them ever again...

my next travel destination shall be Cameron Highlands and Genting
Highlands. i am very interested to see the tea plantation and the
hills and mountains and get a bleeding nose. haha.

doesn't this look like a photo from some nature magazine? my mom
took this pretty photo. those are none other than wasps babies. she

worms wriggling about for a whole 20 sec or so. i love this photo,
though. :)

29 March 2008, Saturday

my recent posts will look a bit weird in terms of the spacing cos i'm
using the notepad to type it instead of Microsoft Word.

anyway, i went to Cold Storage to buy my favourite snack for the year,
wang wang's hei bai pei (ya, ya, i hear gasps of disbelief but believe
me, i've never tried it before last week. lol.). and as you know, Cold
Storage mostly cater to the richer upper class people who are willing
to spend more so they travel less (like, 3 times more than average?)
and today being a weekend (29 March, Saturday), lots of rich people are stocking
up for the next week. and me, i only went down to buy my snack. so i
queued up behind this caucasian with a trolley full of goods worth $254
(i found that out later) and he suddenly spoke to me.

i wasn't prepared to be spoken to, so i was bit slow. he asked me if
what i had in hand (that snack) was all i had. me being damn
uncomfortable when ang mohs talked to me plus i was stoning, stared at
him for what seemed like an eternity. anyway, he offered to let me go
first since i only had one item but i said it was alright. well, i did
reach after him, so i should pay for my purchases after him. anyway,
after i declined, he shook his head and turned away as if i'm some
dimwitted person (which i will admit i am, IN THIS OCCASION).

anyway, the point is, i was damn touched when he offered to let me go
first. why am i not living in such an environment when people are
much more generous to strangers? can you imagine your neighburhood
kiasu aunties letting you go first? they will more likely ask you to
let them go first because they have 5 items while you have 6.

and that reminds me of another place. In Bangkok, at their MRT
stations (they call it the BTS), they also have those yellow lines
to stand behind to allow commuters to alight first but the difference
is that they do stand behind the yellow lines. and they actually stood
in an indian file and allowed commuters to alight before they board the
train. so amazing. isn't it? and it's so fun standing in a single file
waiting to board th train.

why is it that we don't see these in our society? we are indeed richer
than the Thais in terms of GDP but are we better than them in anything
else? i get this feeling we are at our best in earning more money and
earning more money and earning more money and earning more money and...
why is it that the caucasians have more money and culture? what exactly
is it that we lack that made us richer materially but not non-
materially?

oh, Energy is coming down to Leisure Park tomorrow, 30 March but by the
time i post this, they would've came and went. not a fan of Energy, my
apologies to Energy fans, but tomorrow, there'll be lots of business
(hopefully) and free entertainment. Though not earning commission,
it's still good to be busy. else. i'll just stone whole day. that can
be boring after a while too.

looking forward to the Chek Jawa trip with the class next Saturday! :D
i know it'll be fun. hopefully, i don't have to work after that.

hey, i realised that my tolerance for kids has increased. but i still
can't stand screaming/ wailing kids. nor brats. still have the urge to
strangle them or at the very least, gag them. if all the little kids
look AND behave like angels (as opposed to looking like angels and
behaving like the very devil), the world will be a much better place.
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

30 March 2008, Sunday

continuing on the inter-racial marriages (last post), i wonder what
my dear relative would say to a chinese and an ang moh marrying. would
it be more acceptable than a chinese and indian? or is he one of those
who cannot abide by any 'dilution of the chinese blood'? i really do
wonder at times.

you know, the Energy thingy only starts at 3 pm but their fans are
already waiting for them at 10am. how logical is that?! i know i
wouldn't even do that for Gary Chaw lor. it's insanity. but then, fans
aren't really supposed to be logical when it comes to their idols,
right? nevermind. i still don't agree with their way of supporting
their idol... hmmm. i just realised i would insult some people with
this post. opps. :P

-aeRieL-

1 April 2008, Tuesday

you know, these days are so boring, or should i say mundane, that i can
hardly summon much enthusiam to go about the day. it's like a routine
that never changes. much like school and my prevoius job. but some how,
i don't recall complaining much in my last job. i had to start work
earlier and end work at about the same tme as now and i'm paid about
the same rate as now but this time round, it's so much more boring and
tedious. and go school can pon school but go work cannot pon work. cos
one week only got one day off.

but i will try not to complain about it. yesterday after work i went
to parkway and when i was on the bus home, i hear this old lady saying
she has one day off every ten days. i thought my working conditions are
quite inhumane already but that bets mine. she has to work a ten
hour shift and sometimes 14 hours.

but i'm still bored! i can fnish one book per day every day that i am
working. i know i'm paid to do nothing but the shopping centre is
really like a ghost town every single freaking day except for weekends.
you don't see that for AMK Hub lor.

on a different note, i googled 'aeriel' the last time i used the
internet and i found out it is a guy's name. like, got some rock star
or something with that first name. but Meredith Ann Pierce's
character with the same name is a girl leh. lol.
