what is it with people that they fail to notice that the world is
changing. what used to be taboo has evolved to be what is the social
norm, or at least grudgingly accepted by the society.

take for example, piercings. ear piercings in the 18th/19th century
used to be looked upon as exotic. then, 2 ear piercings on FEMALES
became the social norm. when MALES started to pierce their ears too,
it was met with much resistance from the society. later, guys are
supposed to only pierce their left ear lobe or be gay. now, everywhere
you go, you see guys with piercings on both ear lobes. what does that
make them? bisexuals? fortunately, the world has changed by now, and
this is only a fashion statement.

then there is the case of tattoos. originally used to mark convicts so
that society can tell them apart. it caught on with gangs, making a
particular design as one of their own. the yakuza, for example, are
famous/ infamous for their full body tattos. around the same time,
or maybe later, it became an art form as well. hence, not everyone in
the streets who sport a tattoo is with a gang. but much of the world,
at least on this side of the world, has not caught on with the new
meaning of tattoos and insist that it's a sign of a negative vibe.

it never cease to iritate me when people point out a person with a
tattoo or one too many piercings and single them out as 'bad people'.
it can be a form of art, a way of expressing themselves, a way of
insolating themselves from the world that is so (damn) narrow-minded.
what you do not agree with does not mean that it is wrong. even the
gods do not make decisions for us mortals. what right have you to
judge a person on the street just by his/ her appearance?

and who said that we are a racial harmonious society? people would not
look down on couples of two differnt race if we were so harmonious.
just because a chinese and an indian is dating, a 'kind hearted, well
meaning' (NOT) relative insults the family by saying the head of the
family has not done his duty well, hence the child is dating one of
another race. if the relative happened to have an sibling-in-law who
is of another race, is he about to insult his own father as not
having done his duty as the head of the family well? well, he ain't
about to say that, is he? he would inevitably insult himself in the
same breath. well, i have news for you, dear relative. STOP
BULLSHITTING! one day, you will be made to eat up all the rubbish you
have uttered. mark my words.
