the SMU interview

Date: 24 March 2008
Time: 1415 hours/ 2.15pm
Venue: School of Social Sciences, Level 4

I tried to prepare for my interview 2 days before the actual day. I
thought about what kind of questions they would most likely ask me. it
never did occur to me that they would start by asking me if i had
questions to ask them. i was pretty shocked by it.

later they asked me to connect geography to the modern society, to use
geography to explain why there are so many shops on Orchard Road, to
discuss whether Internet shopping will ever replace shopping in shops,
whether i believed in ghosts, whether black holes exist, whether humans
are the greatest things on earth. it was quite a weird session but it
was great fun discussing such topics with the professors.

i honestly have no idea what they thought of my performance back in the
conference room but i certainly hope i am interesting enough and
demostrated enough depth in my thinking to qualify as a student in
SMU SOSS!

advantages of studying in SMU:
1. travelling expenses of only $0.89 per trip to and from home
2. expenses on hostel saved
3. near the city, very accessible from everywhere else
